Summary: The story first took place in Tokyo, Japan, modern time. Two high school students, Kei Kurono and Kaito Masaru, died in a subway accident while trying to save a drunken man. At the moment they died, they were transported into a room with other people who also had recently died. In the room is a black ball called Gantz, which ordered them to kill aliens and provided them with futuristic weapons and super power suits. From that day on, it's a battle of survival to Kurono and Masaru because all the dangerous missions had a very low survival rate. Other characters came and died, and also be revived. The biggest questions are : What's Gantz? Where's it come from? Why do they have to fight and kill? Is the world going to an end?

Assessment for this manga (from manganews.net): This is a very dark manga with a lot of violence and s*x. The story is original. It's sometimes can be predicted yet still brings to the readers surprises and a lot of questions to be answered. Every character are very unique and interesting in their own ways. However, other than the main characters, they tend to die rather quickly in missions so they don't have much time in character development. The art is amazing, all the characters and alliens are very well designed. The action scenes are both bloody and graphic, yet still very realistic (still, you can be confused if you don't pay attention at some scene). Overall, this is a great manga for older audience looking for action (violence & s*x).

Characters:

#1 Kei Kurono :



A high school student who, at first, didn't care about any body else and look down on humanity. He lived away from is family (he hated them as well) and the only thing he seemed to care about was girls' nice bodies. One day, at the subway, he met his old friend (Kaito Masaru), and while Kurono helped him (unwillingly) save a drunken man who fell on the railway, they were crushed by the train (the drunken man was safe). At that moment, they were transport to a room where there were a black ball with people who supposed to be dead.

He is the first part main hero. Although at first he didn't seem to be like a typical hero, but he was kind of talented in killing the strongest alien and survived while most of the others usually died. And only after being save by Masaru (in some way, it can be said that this guy sacrified himself to save him), and fell in love with a girl who's not really the prettiest (Tae Kojima) did he truly care about others and value other people lives as well as his.

In short, the first part of the story concentrates on the development of this character from a selfish person to someone who knows how to love and value the lives of others.

At the end of the first part, after revived Masaru, his girlfriend and another character, he was freed from the room, but then died because of some aliens (vampires)
